Sunbeam’s “Season of Joy”

Sunbeam and Catholic Charities are committed to serving their clients in the best way possible.  Due to an increase in the need for services at Sunbeam and Catholic Charities, the organizations are piloting new ways to best support their families over the holiday season. While the nonprofits are not hosting A Very Giving Christmas this year, they will continue to support one another and explore new partnership opportunities in support of our missions.

Sunbeam Celebrates Families this Holiday Season
This year, Sunbeam is piloting a new holiday program called Sunbeam’s “Season of Joy” to serve its most at-risk families whose children attend the nonprofit’s early learning centers.  Sunbeam will also connect clients in need of holiday assistance to community partners who provide these services.

Sunbeam will also continue to serve foster families over the holiday season through partnerships with Oklahoma City Fire Station 1 and The Freedom Riders Motorcycle Club.

Through the 19th annual Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Holiday Program, Sunbeam’s grandfamilies, which consists of grandparents who are raising a grandchild or grandchildren, will be receiving holiday help through a generous partnership with the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, TRIAD, and the Oklahoma Recyclers Association.

Join Sunbeam in Spreading Joy

Join Sunbeam in celebrating families this holiday season by providing joy and toys to families.

To sign up to shop for a family through Sunbeam’s “Season of Joy”, or for more information, visit SunbeamFamilyServices.org/joy or contact Casey Shupe at [email protected] or 405-609-2850.

Sunbeam also needs support from volunteers like you year-round!  Please consider investing in Sunbeam’s mission by donating your time and talent through:

  • Volunteering at an In-Service Training for Foster Families – In-service training volunteers support foster families by providing free childcare, and lots of fun, for foster families while they attend a training at Sunbeam.  This volunteer opportunity is available four times a year from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m. during the months of September, October, March, and April.
  • Joining Classroom Buddies – Did you know Sunbeam’s early learning center sites have lesson plans to teach children about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics)?  Do you enjoy holding babies or helping young children learn through play?  If so, contact us to donate your time to reading to children and participating in a learning activity. Times are available Monday through Friday from 8-10 a.m. and/or 1-3 p.m. at a variety of locations across Oklahoma City.
  • Supporting Grandparents Raising their Grandchildren – At GRG support groups, grandparents connect with others and learn about supportive resources. Volunteers like you are needed to help provide free childcare to the grandchildren during the support groups.  These are located across the Oklahoma City metro-area and support group dates and times vary by location.

Sunbeam can also work with you to create a customized volunteer experience for your organization or group.

For more information, or to volunteer, contact Jane Meeks at [email protected] or 405-609-1755.

Catholic Charities Continues to Support Clients

For the upcoming season of giving, Catholic Charities will be referring toy and clothing needs to community holiday programs, such as Sharing Tree’s Christmas Connection. Through stewarding these resources, Catholic Charities programs will best leverage their strengths to serve clients well.

Volunteer opportunities for this season include assembling hygiene and snack packs, refugee resettlement assistance, event volunteers for homeless service Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, and administrative elves to support the work of Catholic Charities programs.   Contact Chelsea Rose at [email protected] or 405-523-3009 for more information on being a blessing this holiday season!
